Portland CSO Basin And Interceptor
CONTRACTOR: Dugan & Meyers
PROJECT OWNER: Louisville and Jefferson County Metropolitan Sewer District
LOCATION: LOUISVILLE, KY
BUDGET: $ 34.8 MILLION
COMPLETION: 2019
Portland CSO Basin is one of the combined storm water and sanitary overflow structures constructed around the city of Louisville to store wastewater during high rain events until it can be transferred back into the system for treatment. The project includes a basin, control building, grinder building, grinder structure, valve vault, flow monitor vault, PEMB foundation, and two diversion structures.
Cornerstone performed design services for the Portland CSO Basin. The Portland CSO Basin was the first circular underground basin constructed in Louisville. At 230-feet in diameter and 37-feet-deep, the basin has a capacity to store 6.75 million gallons of wastewater. In order to provide a park in this area, the basin is completely buried under 5-10 feet of soil overburden. Cornerstone also provided construction administration and special inspections services, which included structural steel members, connections and welds, reinforced concrete, and reinforced masonry.
