Mount Vernon Middle School Addition and Renovations

The Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation needed major renovations done to their existing middle school building to convert an existing gymnasium into a cafeteria space and convert the existing kitchen and commons area into additional classroom space. This scope also included an addition to the building for a brand-new kitchen. Cornerstone provided structural engineering services for the additions and renovations for Mount Vernon Middle School. This included using Revit to model the existing school. Cornerstone provided the design of the foundations, structural elements, and gravity and lateral force resisting systems for the new nearly 3,500 square foot kitchen. Cornerstone also designed new CMU wall lintels for enlarged doors for the conversion of the gymnasium to a cafeteria and developed a solution to provide matching floor elevations between the existing building and new additions/renovations. Cornerstone also conducted the structural analysis of the existing roof structure for the placement of new mechanical equipment.

Cornerstone provided construction administration services during the construction phase including shop drawing reviews, RFI responses, and site visits at critical stages of the construction.
