Wrigley Field Expansion

Wrigley Field was undergoing a 5-year renovation project in 2015 that included new concession areas, restroom facilities, outfield group terraces, a reworked third-base side concourse, new player locker rooms and strength training areas, updated bleachers, and a 2,400-square-foot videoboard overlooking the left field bleacher seats.  With this project requiring strict timelines around the baseball team’s schedule, communication was a necessity in order to coordinate with each design discipline and the contractor.

Cornerstone was contracted to design connections and review the existing connections for the Wrigley Field Bleacher Expansion Project. The work consisted of the review of infill beam shear connections for appropriate loading and preparing supplemental connection calculations where required. Cornerstone was the Engineer of Record for the moment frame, vertical and horizontal bracing, and column splices. We used the requirements and reactions per the contract drawings for our analysis and design. Cornerstone provided detailed drawings to the architect of these connections. Cornerstone was also involved in the construction administration phase of the project. This included shop drawing reviews and site visits to inspect the contractor’s conformance with the design and shop drawing’s intent.
