Muddy Fork SSO Interceptor Basin

The Muddy Fork SSO Interceptor Basin is one of the sanitary sewer overflow structures constructed around the city of Louisville designed to store wastewater during high rain events until it can be transferred back into the system for treatment. The basin is 101-feet-long by 79-feet-wide and 35.5-feet-deep. The basin had an over 1.4-million-gallon design capacity. The design also included a diversion chamber, control building, and catwalk.  The basin is located in a residential area and as a result was designed with above-ground aesthetics in mind.  The basin is covered with a grass area open to public access.

Cornerstone performed design services for the Muddy Fork SSO Interceptor Basin. The design included a rock anchor foundation comprised of 104 anchors to tie the basin into the shallow bedrock in the Muddy Fork area. The basin had 4-foot-thick walls and a 4-foot-thick base slab at the thickest points. The control building had CMU walls with a brick veneer. Cornerstone also provided construction administration services for the basin.
