Talus Removal at Westfork Lake
PROJECT OWNER: US Army Corps of Engineers
LOCATION: HAMILTON, OH
BUDGET: $ 584,000
COMPLETION: 2020
The existing spillway walls at the Westfork Lake Dam had experienced erosion and tree growth over the past 50 years. The sediment had also raised the bottom of the spillway and could have restricted the flow of water in a flood situation and caused undue stress on the dam.
Cornerstone used several track hoes and all-terrain trucks with tracks to remove and haul the material to an adjacent dump site. Safety was a major concern due to the slop of the haul road and the proximity to the lake. Winter conditions also restricted production, and on several occasions the project was delayed for days at a time. Nonetheless, our crews worked closely with the USACE personnel to keep the job on schedule and under budget.
