Norton Audubon Hospital Addition and Renovations

Norton Healthcare required an addition to the Audubon Hospital as well as a new construction of a parking garage. The 4-story addition was focused on enhancing patient privacy, patient satisfaction, efficiency, and clinical value. The scope included an addition to house 74 new private patient beds, an expansion of the emergency department, Intensive Care Unit, and Open Heart Unit, the addition of three operating rooms, renovation of the main operating room, expansion of the recovery area, a new front entrance with improved patient registration areas, and a parking garage to add 244 parking spaces for visitors and ambulances.

Cornerstone provided structural engineering services for the additions and renovations for the Norton Audubon Hospital. The new facility included the use of sustainable construction principles, Energy Star Certification, and a project plan that resulted in minimal impact to the surrounding community.

The interaction between the existing structure and the new modern design presented special challenges and unknown field conditions; this necessitated efficient and responsive communication between Cornerstone, the architect, and the contractor in order to produce the finished product. Steel connectors were designed to connect the new addition to the existing structure.
